Ruger security 9 slide stuck.

25 posts · Joined 2013. #1 · Jun 30, 2013. I have an LC9 that I have been having some trouble with when I go to reassemble the pistol after cleaning it. When I go to put the slide back on to the gun it gets stuck about half way on and then at other times it gets stuck when you release the slide to come forward after you have gotten the slide ...2. I just purchased my lc9 and it feels great except for one major problem. If the slide lock is engaged manually or as a result of the last bullet being ejected I can not release the slide without manually pushing down the lock. I cannot get the slide to release with the slingshot method. *I am left handed.The issue is, basically, if I hand cycle the slide and ease it forward, the slide will get stuck about 1/8" out of battery. I then can push the slide forward the rest of the way. Like I said, it doesn't affect live firing, but the P89 I owned in the past wouldn't get stuck out of battery when doing this, so I wonder how normal this is.Solutions. Magazine Ejection. Smooth out magazine edges and clean the magazine well. Trigger Issues. Replace the hammer spring and polish internal components. Feeding Problems. Adjust the extractor, smooth the feed ramp, and consider ammo type. Slide Lock Issue. Replace worn slide lock spring and lever; reevaluate grip.

Evidently, there is definitely something amiss with the guide rod assembly. As I mentioned above, try to manipulate the guiderod assembly with a dental pick or similiar object while "shaking" the pistol. Put the safety in the off-safe position. If possible, try to move the slide back and forth as you do this.Yes, I feel I have had some experience with semi-auto guns. I also have a Ruger SR9 (which I think has a stronger recoil spring than the SR9c) and a Ruger LCP (which I replaced the 9# recoil springs with 11# recoil springs). I kinda think if I can lock the slide open on these two, I should be able to do it on the SR9c. No offense taken.

After removing the firing pin and cleaning the channel. simply wipe the firing lightly with a cloth with a drop or two of oil on it. Oil collects dirt and that dirt will eventually gum up the firing pin. I'd pull the Security 9 apart and re clean the channel before I'd send it back to Ruger.

The slide would stay locked back when there were still rounds in the magazine. This happened more than once. Plus often when you put a new (loaded) magazine in and pull the slide back to put a round in the chamber the slide got stuck in the back position. It probably required a MM or less of material removal. You caould also probably slightly file the thumb lever itself, but it would need to be removed.
